Wayne State University Planetarium
Your instructor, along with the Department of Physics and Astronomy, would like to offer you a chance to learn more about the night sky, see more of what our department has to offer, and earn a bit of extra credit in the process. Throughout this semester, we will be holding several sessions in the Wayne State University planetarium. The sessions will be fifty-five minutes each (one class block) and cover some basics on the night sky and constellations.
Your instructor has already explained or will explain the extent of the extra credit. The instructor will be informed of your attendance at the end of the term based on a form that you will fill out after the session. If you leave early or fail to fill out the form you are not entitled to extra credit.
There are sessions scheduled for the following dates and times. We will regularly update the number of seats left for the sessions and other information (such as cancellations or added shows).
The April 25 show has the maximum number of reservations. You may still show up without a reservation on standby status but keep in mind that those with reservations have first priority.
| Date | Time | Seats Remaining |
| Friday 4/25 | 5p | FULL |
Signing up
To sign up, email planetarium@physics.wayne.edu with your name, instructor, desired planetarium session, and number of guests (guests other than yourself). You must sign up at least 24 hours in advance and will receive a confirmation email if a seat is available. If there are no seats left in that session we will work with you to find another time.
There may be occasional problems or miscommunication with the email sign-up process. If there are seats still available in a session, just show up! The sign-up process is for reserving seats but is not required. You should still attempt to sign up, though, as those without reservations are allowed in on a stand-by basis.
Finding the planetarium
Photo guide to finding the planetarium up here. The planetarium is located at 0209 Old Main. This is the lowest level of the Old Main (not the second floor). When entering from the Cass main doors, take the stairs down and walk straight ahead. The planetarium will be just down the hall on the right. You can also enter from the Hancock side service entrance, just east of the Schaver Hall entrance. These doors are directly in front of the planetarium.
Other rules
You may bring friends, family, or any other guests with you to any of the shows. Be sure to include the number of additional guests when you sign up.
Though guests are absolutely allowed, food and drink are not! Please finish any snacks before entering the planetarium.
